27th April 2009 // Murray signs deal for Spanish Seat Supercopa

Irish International ace Eoin Murray has signed a deal to race this season for Portuguese team Oasis Motorsport to compete in the Spanish Seat Supercopa Championship.

Eoin made a huge impression on the European series in 2008 finishing third in the Championship in his rookie year. However in the current economic climate finding the backing to compete again in the Seat Eurocup was not possible. At the ‘eleventh hour’ Eoin was offered a deal to race for Oasis motorsport in the Seat Supercopa which is Seat’s Spanish series. The first event being in Valencia this weekend (2/3 May).

As a Spanish based manufacturer Seat is a huge draw and the Spanish Championship is hotly contested with 38 cars entered for the first round. There is a strong cross over with drivers from the European Championship also competing in the Spanish Championship as this championship offers substantial cash prizes for each race. Each event consists of two twenty minute sprint races on the Saturday afternoon and a forty minute race on Sunday morning with the top eight drivers from each race result reversed. The European and Supercopa cars are identical spec with the only difference being a change from Pirelli to Dunlop tyres.

Commenting on the Signing Eoin Murray said “I am delighted to have secured a drive for 2009. I am very grateful to Oasis Motorsport for spotting my talent and giving me this opportunity. I am also grateful to Seat Spain and Seat Ireland for their enthusiasm in getting me involved in this championship. Valencia will be an interesting weekend as it will be my first time to meet the team and with no pre season testing it might be difficult to start with. But I know the track and won the Eurocup race there last year so I’m hoping for a strong showing”

The championship will take place at the following venues:
2/3 May – Valencia Spain
13/14 June – Jarama, Spain
1/2 August – Portimao, Portugal
12/13 September – Albacete, Spain
17/18 October – Jerez, Spain
30 Oct. / 1 Nov. – Catalunya, Spain
